Wilpinjong connects with the community at NRL Mudgee Round

Wilpinjong Mine was proud to be part of the excitement at this year’s NRL Mudgee Round, hosting a community stall at the Panthers vs Raiders match at Glen Willow Oval. With thousands of fans streaming through the gates for what local media described as an “electric” and high‑energy clash, the event provided a great opportunity for our team to meet people, answer questions and enjoy a memorable afternoon of footy in the Mid‑Western Region.

Our stall was busy throughout the day, with team members speaking with locals and visitors about life at Wilpinjong and sharing information on our plans to responsibly mine thermal coal through to 2038. Many people were interested in learning more about the two‑stage continuation plan, which — if approved — will help secure ongoing jobs and economic benefits for the region. Wilpinjong currently supports a workforce of around 700 people, and continuing operations would maintain strong employment and investment in the Mid‑Western community.

The atmosphere around the ground was buzzing, helped along by a strong performance from Penrith, who recorded a 42-18 win over Canberra in front of a packed crowd. Local coverage highlighted the scale of the event and the enthusiasm of fans across the region, reinforcing why the Mudgee Round has become such a popular fixture on the sporting calendar.

One of the biggest hits of the day at our stall was the Peabody footy giveaway, with kids — and plenty of adults — lining up to grab one. The simple joy of handing out footys and chatting with families is something our team always values, and it was great to see so many people stopping by to say hello.

Across the afternoon, the message was clear: Wilpinjong is proud to be part of this region, and we appreciate every opportunity to connect with the community, listen to feedback, and share updates about the work we do.
