Our commitment to sustainability underpins everything we do at Wilpinjong and shapes our strategy for the future.
The mine has comprehensive plans in place to minimise our impact on the environment and community – including for water, noise, air quality, blast management, biodiversity, rehabilitation, Aboriginal cultural heritage and historic heritage. Government regulators assess our performance against these plans.
We comply with the Federal Government’s Safeguard Mechanism which monitors and mandates baseline limits for our emissions.
We believe the transition to a net-zero emissions economy must balance the need for a timely transition with the necessity for affordable, reliable energy for Australia and other parts of the world.
Did you know?
Did you know that we progressively rehabilitate land we have disturbed as soon as it is no longer needed for mining? Land is seeded with native pastures and complemented with tube stock to return it to native woodland to attract the critically endangered Regent Honey Eater.
At the end of 2022 we had rehabilitated almost 950ha of land. We’re on track to complete rehabilitation of another 59.3ha in 2023.
